As an experienced Bristol County Divorce Attorney, I am often asked by clients about the contested divorce process.  A contested divorce is where both parties can not agree at the onset of the divorce. Fault grounds are not used during a contest divorce. A complaint for divorce is filed instead of a joint petition because in order to have a petition, you must have an agreement at the time you start the divorce proceeding .  At the end of the divorce, the majority end up with an agreement. Even though a divorce might start off as contested, it’s often ended with an agreement between the parties.
